June Yard of the Month!

The Ridglea North Neighborhood Garden Committee has chosen 3112 Marys Lane as the Yard of the Month for June!

The Francisco Avina family have lived here for 20 years. The front yard is filled with a variety of colorful flowers but the show stopper is the white Hydrangea.

The large bushes of white Hydrangea have all been propagated from a small plant Francisco received as a gift years ago. The back yard is equally beautiful and is filled with pots of white, pink, and blue hydrangea.

Congratulations Francisco!

Usually once a month, a volunteer drops off treats to the firehouse, police station, or MedStar's offices. If you would like to get involved, please email Suzie Jary for more information on where to drop off treats, when, and how many!

Mary Louise Phillips Elementary School is gearing up for some beautification and improvement projects.

Here are three ways we could directly use your help.

  1. PLAYGROUND INSTALLATION – The highly-anticipated installation of a new playground will take place on Thursday, June 6th and June 8th. This is being funded by a grant from Kaboom, but we need extra hands for build-week. Sign-up here (https://forms.gle/JCUMrjtTt5BBfRDx8)
  2. LANDSCAPING AND SUMMER WATERING – We need volunteers to help with watering newly planted flowers so they will be thriving by August when school starts back up! If you can help with dead plant removal, hedge trimming, or even weeding the beds, that would be a HUGE help. Sign-up here (https://forms.gle/mQnHwvgzyL112NYo7)
  3. FUNDRAISING – The biggest thing we need is funds for landscaping and improvements to the irrigation system. If you would like to contribute individually or have a sponsor in mind, please reach out to Christina Ewin at christina.ewin@williamstrew.com.

We cannot thank you enough for supporting our sweet little school. Whether it is time, energy, or funds, any contribution to the school will go a long way in improving the education of our community!

A Note from VP of Public Safety

Happy Summer Neighbors! I hope everyone has enjoyed the first week or so of being out of school. If you're like us, your summer plans are already mapped out. If you have any long vacations planned, it would be a good idea to ask your neighbors to keep an eye out while you're away. Perhaps you can return the favor another time.

Additionally, you can have the post office and/or newspaper(s) suspend delivery so your external mailbox doesn't fill up and catch the eye of would be troublemakers. Same goes for Amazon.

Finally, test and automate any exterior lighting or security cameras if you have them. You can also buy some for internal lamps to turn on and off at random times throughout the night to give the impression someone is home. This is much better than leaving lights on the entire time you're gone. If you have any questions about brands or setting them up, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I'm happy to help in any way.
