Join Us for National Night Out!
Ridglea North Neighborhood Association is excited to host National Night Out, a fantastic evening dedicated to strengthening our community bonds and fostering connections with local law enforcement. It is TONIGHT, Tuesday, October 1st from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Berney Park for this much-anticipated event!
What is National Night Out?
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign celebrated across the United States, aimed at promoting neighborhood camaraderie, safety awareness, and stronger relationships with public safety officials. It’s a night for neighbors to meet each other, enhance the sense of community, and discuss ways to make Ridglea North a safer, more welcoming place.
Event Highlights:
- Meet and Greet with First Responders – Take this opportunity to meet local police officers, firefighters, and emergency personnel. They’ll be on hand to answer questions and give safety tips.
- Food & Fun – Enjoy refreshments, snacks, and delicious treats from Agape Pops.
- Family-Friendly Activities – Bring the whole family! There will be games, activities, and entertainment for kids of all ages, even adults with a table for voter registration!
- Neighborhood Updates – RNNA board members will be there to share updates on upcoming events, community projects, and ways you can get involved.
- Sponsors – We'd like to thank our local business sponsors for helping to make National Night Out successful, even with a park that's under construction. Thanks to ACE Hardware, the Fort Work Library, and Agape Pops for bringing our community together, and the more, the merrier!
We can’t wait to see you at Berney Park as we celebrate community spirit, safety, and the strength of Ridglea North! Let’s make this National Night Out one to remember!

Playground and Park Update
We have some exciting progress on the playground project! The playground equipment is expected to arrive on October 7th. Once it’s here, the pit will be filled with gravel for drainage, followed by a layer of mulch, making it more level with the concrete border, similar to the previous playground.
In other updates, we’ve had to repair the irrigation line twice due to mower damage, despite warning flags. Director of Parks & Green Spaces Christopher Griffins has added more flags and a wooden stake to mark the spot where dead trees were removed. We’re also planning to request new trees for those areas and may handle the planting ourselves, with assistance from the city’s tree program.
The flowers at the dedication memorial, planted on July 3rd, have been thriving, thanks to neighbor John Peloubjet’s daily watering. Some plants are suffering from a stem fungus, so we’ll remove them soon and likely plant something new for autumn in October.
Friendly Reminder: For the safety and comfort of everyone, please remember to keep your dogs on a leash while in the park. Let’s all work together to ensure a clean, safe, and enjoyable space for our neighbors and pets.
Stay tuned for more updates!

Many birds migrate at night. Every spring and fall, they soar across Texas in flocks by the hundreds of millions. Our night sky becomes a super highway of birds! Unfortunately, birds are attracted to light, so brightly-lit homes and buildings can confuse and disorient them. They often collide with windows and walls. It's hard to believe, but we lose up to one billion birds to collisions in the US every year. If by chance they survive, hazards in the city abound, like busy streets, food scarcity, and feral cats. To keep Texas birds flying high, it’s as easy as flipping a switch – go Lights Out for Wildlife during peak spring and fall migration from 11 PM to 6 AM (Sep, Oct, & Nov / Mar, Apr, & May).
Things You Can Do:
-
Certify your home, business, or building with Lights Out for Wildlife and inspire others with your commitment to conservation. It’s free!
-
Turn off non-essential lights from 11 PM to 6 AM during peak spring and fall migration (Sept, Oct, & Nov / Mar, Apr, & May).
-
Turn off or dim lobby and atrium lights.
-
Turn off or dim interior home lighting.
-
Turn off decorative landscape lighting.
-
Turn off lights before leaving the home or office.
-
Draw blinds and close curtains.
-
Be sure outside lights are aimed down and well shielded.
-
Install motion sensors on outside lights to minimize use.

Neighborhood Composting!
Did you know that the Ridglea Giving Garden located at 3251 Sappington has a composting operation? In addition to growing crops year-round that we donate to West Aid and LVT Rise, we are making rich compost for our garden and keeping food scraps and garden waste out of local landfills. And we need your help.
The Ridglea Giving Garden partners with Compost Carpool to get the food scraps we need for composting, but leaves are also a vital component for making compost. And since we are coming to the time of year when there is an abundance of leaves, we are asking for your bagged leaves.
You can drop off your bagged leaves in the compost area located through the grapevine-covered archway on Sappington. (Please, no limbs or brush or trash.)
Please help us keep fall leaves out of the landfill and use them for making rich soil to grow healthy food to feed our hungry neighbors. If you have any questions, please contact Adrianne Berry at 682-239-0135.
