Save the Date: Neighborhood Litter Stomp

Saturday, October 14, 8:30am

Neighborhood Litter Stomp is a citywide volunteer litter cleanup hosted by Keep Fort Worth Beautiful every fall. We'll gather in the park for some light breakfast treats before spreading out to collect trash around Ridglea North and pull weeds in Morris E. Berney Park. Email sjary@mindspring.com to RSVP!

Yard of the Month

The Ridglea North Garden Committee has chosen 3228 Edgehill as October's Yard of The Month. Jeff and Vicki Heyer updated their front yard this Spring.  Beneath two large shade trees they added a black iron fence and a paved path that leads to the front porch. On either side of the porch steps is a mound of different size and shaped pumpkins. The flower beds are filled with a variety of plants including oakleaf hydrangea, yaupon holly, hosta, and colorful ornament grasses.

Congratulations Jeff and Vicki!

Many birds migrate at night. Every spring and fall, they soar across Texas in flocks by the hundreds of millions. Our night sky becomes a super highway of birds! Unfortunately, birds are attracted to light, so brightly-lit homes and buildings can confuse and disorient them. They often collide with windows and walls. It's hard to believe, but we lose up to one billion birds to collisions in the US every year. If by chance they survive, hazards in the city abound, like busy streets, food scarcity, and feral cats. To keep Texas birds flying high, it’s as easy as flipping a switch – go Lights Out for Wildlife during peak spring and fall migration from 11 PM to 6 AM (Sep, Oct, & Nov / Mar, Apr, & May).

Things You Can Do:

  • Certify your home, business, or building with Lights Out for Wildlife and inspire others with your commitment to conservation. It’s free!

  • Turn off non-essential lights from 11 PM to 6 AM during peak spring and fall migration (Sept, Oct, & Nov / Mar, Apr, & May).

  • Turn off or dim lobby and atrium lights.

  • Turn off or dim interior home lighting.

  • Turn off decorative landscape lighting.

  • Turn off lights before leaving the home or office.

  • Draw blinds and close curtains.

  • Be sure outside lights are aimed down and well shielded.

  • Install motion sensors on outside lights to minimize use.

Neighborhood Security Update

From VP of Public Safety, Hunter Johnson:

Recently someone has been breaking windows of businesses along the Camp Bowie corridor. I'm pleased to report that the subject has been identified and warrants will be issued.

Construction News

Although not strictly in our neighborhood, news regarding Westridge Avenue on the southside of Ridglea North will likely affect us. Sanitary sewer mains and water mains will be replaced in an area bound by Camp Bowie Boulevard to the north, Bryant Irvin Road to the east, W. Vickery Boulevard to the south and Edgehill Road to the west.

In preparation for this project, which will likely begin in February 2024, there will be gas line preparation occurring along this route and will begin in October.

A Look Back: Movie in the Park

On Saturday, September 30th, neighbors gathered in Morris E. Berney Park to watch Elemental, the newest major release by Pixar. The event was well attended and everyone enjoyed the movie! Many thanks again to our sponsor, Primrose Schools, for making this event possible!
