Congratulations to May's Yard of the Month!

April Showers bring beautiful May Flowers at 6116 Locke Avenue. We're thrilled to announce Allison Poston and her delightful guard dogs, Bodie and Rosie, have captured the spotlight as winners of our "Yard of the Month" award for May. New to the neighborhood in April 2023, Allison worked with SPSD, Inc. to cultivate a landscape design that radiates joy and positivity. The front beds, adorned with classic shrubs like boxwood and ligustrum privet, exude timeless elegance. The showstoppers, though, are the knockout roses and the periwinkle mix that provide boundless happiness to the scene. Charming landscape pots overflow with colorful variety such as lantana, begonia, and pink bougainvillea – a true paradise for garden enthusiasts! The inviting flagstone path welcomes visitors to this delightful garden. The original design, executed by Espinoza Landscaping, is meticulously maintained by them to ensure its continued beauty.

Congratulations, Allison - your garden is a source of endless joy for Ridglea North!

Rock the Park

We would like to thank everyone who came out to enjoy the community at Rock the Park this past April! Bounce houses, scavenger hunts, and camaraderie were the order of the day. A special thanks to Event Coordinator Tabitha Williams for organizing the event so splendidly, and to our event sponsors: Curlys Frozen Custard, the Fort Worth Zoo, and Agape Pops! We hope your block had an opportunity to gather together during Rock the Block month as well. See you again next year!

Solar Eclipse 2024

We hope everyone had a wonderful time watching the truly awe-inspiring celestial show in April! These neighbors enjoyed Berney Park while watching the eclipse. Thanks for sharing pictures with us!

Reminder!

This year's neighborhood garage sale is Saturday, May 11th! We're partnering with Ridglea Hills to coordinate the dates of our garage sales to generate more traffic. A map will be forthcoming. The deadline to be included was yesterday, April 30th.

Berney Park Updates

It’s been a busy spring at Berney Park! Our Parks & Green Spaces director, Christopher Griffin, has worked diligently to make important improvements to our park irrigation systems. You may notice that some of our crepe myrtle beds have a new irrigation setup that will provide a long-term solution to the frequent damage seen with previous watering lines. Your membership dues has made these long-term, water-saving updates possible. We will continue working with the city to make improvements to our beloved park as we await the new construction phase for the playground set to begin sometime this year.

More park updates coming! Stay tuned for a Berney Park survey!

The MyFW App!

Need to report something?? Do it on the app!

Want to report a code complaint?  Traffic light malfunction?  Dead animal in the road?  Panhandler on Camp Bowie?  Loose livestock?  These, and dozens of other reports can be made on the "MyFW" app.  Just download the app to your mobile device and join the front lines of keeping things neat and tidy.  The MyFW app is a great tool to report all sorts of things that are non-emergency situations.  You can even submit your best ideas to our city leaders (still waiting to hear about my "rent a cop car for a day" proposal 😉)!

When do I call 911 then?  Good question!  If you need to report an emergency, or report a crime in progress, call 911.  If you're not sure, then call 911.

For now, download the app and use it.

Thank you to VP of Public Safety Doug Wright for this great information!

Questions?

What if I have a question for the city, but don't necessarily want to report anything?

Next time you have a question related to City services, dial 3-1-1 to speak to a nonemergency representative from a wireless device within the city limits.

This number will get you direct access to the City Call Center, which can connect you to city leadership, the garbage/recycling department, animal control, FWPD and FWFD, the water department, development services, the municipal court, and city billing!

Upcoming Construction on Camp Bowie

Recently, city officials presented current engineering plans for improving the intersections of Camp Bowie at Bryant Irvin and Camp Bowie at Horne. The following are photos of the proposed plans.

Camp Bowie at Bryant Irvin

At this intersection the major improvements will consist of expanding the intersection to include:

  • Two dedicated, westbound left turn lanes
  • A dedicated northbound left turn lane
  • A splitter island on Donnelly Avenue to prevent southbound (left hand) turns and car cutting across Bryant Irvin from the southbound Camp Bowie turn lane.

Camp Bowie at Horne Street

At this intersection, main improvements will consist of:

  • Realigning the medians on Camp Bowie so that left hand turns from east-westbound vehicles won't impede each other.
  • Adding splitter islands to Locke Avenue to guide traffic flow
  • Adding a median on the northern side of Horne Street
  • Closing the Camp Bowie Service Road that abuts the northern side of Horne Street
  • Eliminate the extraneous traffic light that directs traffic for Locke/Horne/Camp Bowie Service Road
  • Modify Rosedale entrances to the properties on the SE of the intersection
  • Shift median opening between Rosedal and Locke to align with Faron Street

Construction for both of these intersection improvements is tentatively scheduled for September 2025, and will last approximately a year.

To provide feedback or gather more information, contact City Project Manager Chad Allen at 817-392-8021 for general details. For more specific details, contact Trenton Tidwell for Camp Bowie at Bryant Irvin and Abhishek Acharya for Camp Bowie at Horne.

Meet your Neighborhood Police Officer!

Meet Ridglea North's new NPO Mike Kuzenka, aka "Officer Mike." Officer Mike has been with the Fort Worth Police Department for 24.5 years! He worked patrol for 9.5 years before transferring to the Direct Response Unit for three years, then serving as an NPO in south Fort Worth. These past 8 years, he took over as the Homelessness Liaison and Community Relation officer. He spent over 8 years in that position helping start the H.O.P.E. (Homeless Outreach Program and Enforcement) program. And then in October, he became our NPO!

He is still involved in the senior community, having just put together small toiletry drive for Tarrant County adult protective services, and with underprivileged youth programs, such as the Art of Living and Cowtown Project Success.

If you'd like to reach out to Officer Mike, you can reach him Monday-Friday usually 7am-3pm on the phone at 817-253-3501. Leave a message and will return the call as soon as he's able. For after-hours contact, email michael.kuzenka@fortworthtexas.gov, but IF it is an emergency, call 911.

Many thanks to Officer Mike for his dedication to Ridglea North!
